Carmix for the construction of 450 dwellings near the Moanda mine in Gabon

The mining company Comilog, a subsidiary of the Eramet Group, has opted for the reliability and strength of Carmix machines for the construction of a large residential area near the Moanda mine in Gabon. Classified as the second most productive manganese mine in the world, the Moanda mine has required new routes to be constructed, which may guarantee both the transport of mineral ore and the safety of local inhabitants when Comilog-Eramet had to move people to a new residential area. Started in February 2019, the project has recently come into stream after a training period. It includes the construction of 450 housing units in 1.5 years (one house a day). To achieve this goal, Carmix supplied four Carmix 3.5 TT machines, three Trailer Pumps and three Carmix Baggers, thus ensuring full on-site production of large quantities of concrete in the shortest possible time. The constructing idea is based on applying aluminium formworks on the interior and exterior of each house, in order to create a gap where all electrical and hydraulic conduits are laid, and then to fill it with concrete. When all aluminium structures have been removed, only concrete walls, partitions and ceilings will be standing, already equipped with all necessary arrangements. In addition to that, Carmix machines will be used for road construction and other mine-relevant works.

Carmix, the perfect solution for optimising construction site logistics

Comilog-Eramet was very satisfied with Carmix machines, as they optimise site logistics, lower production times and cut costs, besides simplifying use conditions. The biggest challenge was meeting the set deadlines. However, by combining the Carmix Bagger, the cement-dosing mini silo of 3 m3 capacity, with the Trailer Pump, whose concrete pumping rate achieves 15 m3/h, production times could be reduced by 30%. Moreover, compared to most of our competitors whose weighing system is located in the loader, Carmix machines measure concrete directly in the truck. This makes Carmix a real OFFROAD MOBILE BATCHING PLANT, as it doses different aggregates with less than 2% error rate and its 4-wheel drive makes it suitable for any kind of terrain. Finally, the on-site training by Carmix technicians was the feather in the cap: the Carmix Academy is becoming increasingly strategic and decisive for construction operators in selecting Carmix.
